2006 Presidential Message

Dr. Yucong Wang

With great honor, I am very pleased to serve you as the 2006 president of DCEA at its 25th anniversary. DCEA is one of the professional organizations with the longest history within the Chinese American community in SE Michigan. With the vision of advancing in technology and career, DCEA promote technical excellence and innovations, provide a global network, disseminate information on career and business opportunities, and promote cultural awareness and the value of diversity.

With strong support from the 2006 DCEA board members and advisors, I believe that we can make DCEA stronger. DCEA just had a wonderful year under the 2005 president, Dr. Hua He. As shown in the newsletters as published on the website, there were a series of great events held by DCEA and jointly held with other Chinese American organizations in 2005. As you recall, DCEA just had its 25th anniversary gala event last October. It was one of the largest and most significant events in the Detroit Chinese American community history. In 2006, we will strive to serve our members even better. We will focus our work in the following four areas.

1) DCEA will provide a strong program in its ¡°trademark¡± technical conference with great local and oversea speakers in April (It will coincide with the 2006 SAE World Congress). A series of seminars have also been planned in the rest of year. DCEA will further strengthen its connections with SAE International and SAE China in this globalization environment.

2) With the current business environment in American automotive industry, DCEA will be working with China SAE to provide our members career opportunities in China. In addition to technical seminars, DCEA will organize career development and business development seminars.

3) DCEA will continue its tradition by supporting and recognizing the outstanding students who will be entering and are in engineering field. DCEA will work more closely with other professional organizations in Michigan, and in the world. Especially, DCEA will continue its excellent working relations with other local Chinese American organizations, such as CAGD, ACA, CAPA, DCBA etc.

4) DCEA will further strengthen its organization to make it more efficient and effective with better planning, public relation and communication, fundraising, membership database as well as operation guidelines.

Here, I would like to acknowledge our sponsors in 2005 and look forward to having their continued support in the future: General Motors, Ford Motor, Daimler-Chrysler, ArvinMeritor, FUCHI, Dynamax, ETA and Lawrence Technological University. Their generous support made all the DCEA events possible.
