2009 Presidential Message

Dr. Junwen Hou
Dear DCEA Members:
It is my great honor to serve you as the 2009 president of DCEA. Like each and every one of you, I am very proud of DCEA's rich history, its foundation, and accomplishments in the past 28 years. Time has changed, but DCEA's vision remains the same, that is, advancing in technology and career. DCEA promotes technical excellence and innovations, provides a global network, disseminates information on career and business opportunities, and promotes cultural awareness and the value of diversity.

DCEA just had a wonderful year under the leadership of the 2008 president, Dr. Sam Guo. As shown in the newsletters published on our website, a series of great events were organized by DCEA and jointly held with other Chinese American organizations in 2008. In this unprecedented challenging time in our industry, we will strive to serve you even better. We will focus on our work in the following four areas:

1) DCEA will continue to provide its flagship program - automotive technology conference with distinguished local and overseas speakers in April 19, 2009 (It will coincide with the 2009 SAE World Congress). DCEA will further strengthen its collaborations with China Automotive Technology and Research Center, SAE International, and SAE China in this global environment.

2) DCEA will be working with professional organizations and development agencies to provide our members with career opportunities in China. DCEA will organize career development and business development seminars.

3) DCEA will continue its tradition by supporting and recognizing outstanding students who will be entering or are already present in the engineering field. DCEA will work more closely with other professional organizations in Michigan and in the world. Especially, DCEA will continue its excellent working relations with other local Chinese American organizations, such as CAGD, DCBA, ACA, CAPA, etc.

4) DCEA will further strengthen its organization to make it more efficient and more effective with better planning, public relations and communication, fundraising, membership database as well as operation guidelines.

Herewith, I would like to acknowledge our sponsors and look forward to having their continued support in the future: General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Chrysler LLC, China Automotive Technology and Research Center, SG Automotive Inc., ArvinMeritor, Summitech Engineering Inc, Altair Engineering, Butzel Long, and DS SIMULIA Corp. Their generous support made all the DCEA events possible.
